Body and Freedom Within You

1 Corinthians 6:12-13 - A Neville Goddard interpretation

Read 1 Corinthians 6 in context

Scripture Focus

12All things are lawful unto me, but all things are not expedient: all things are lawful for me, but I will not be brought under the power of any.
13Meats for the belly, and the belly for meats: but God shall destroy both it and them. Now the body is not for fornication, but for the Lord; and the Lord for the body.
1 Corinthians 6:12-13

Biblical Context

Paul acknowledges freedom in Christ but cautions against being mastered by anything. The body is for the Lord, not for mere appetite.

Neville's Inner Vision

Consider that 'all things are lawful' is the liberty of consciousness, the fact that you as I AM may imagine any scene. Yet the inner counsel warns: not all images are expedient, for you will not be brought under the power of any image or appetite. The belly and the meats are symbols of surface cravings; God shall destroy both when you cling to them as power. The body is not for fornication but for the Lord; and the Lord for the body. In this, the truth is that your form exists for the expression of your divine presence. You are not a slave to appetite, you are the ruler—the I AM who imagines and thus creates. When you revise a craving by saying, 'I am the Lord of my body; I govern its use by the Lord within,' you feel the impulse melt into order. Imagination, rightly directed, makes the inner state visible as outer form. So dwell on the consciousness that you are the Lord of your own being, and practice feeling that you already live in that harmony.

Practice This Now

Imaginative Act: Assume the I AM is governing your body; for 3 minutes, feel your posture and breath settle, picture appetite as energy you command, and affirm, 'I am the Lord of my body.'
