Scripture Focus
Biblical Context
The natural man cannot receive the things of the Spirit and cannot know them; spiritual discernment belongs to the one who is aligned with Spirit. The spiritual person judges all things, yet is judged by no one.
Neville's Inner Vision
Think of the natural man as a state of ordinary consciousness grounded in the senses; he cannot receive or know the things of Spirit because those things are discerned by a higher awareness. The 'things of the Spirit' are not objects to be found outside of you, but living meanings perceived by the inner I AM when you shift your vantage point. When you identify with your true self, the spiritual man within begins to judge all things from the eternal standpoint, and yet, being aligned with the I AM, is judged by no one in your world. This is not a rule about others; it is a transformation of your inner posture. Paul is inviting a practical psychology: move from reliance on appearances to a state that can discern truth, and your judgments come from that state rather than from fear or tradition. Your imagination becomes the tool; revision of belief becomes its discipline; and feeling it real completes the bridge between inner conviction and outer reality. In this light, discernment arises as you dwell in the realized I AM.
Practice This Now
Practice: Assume the feeling of your higher self now, and imagine yourself discerning truth in a present question; revise a limiting belief to reflect spiritual discernment, then feel it real.
