Verse 5 records that Jesus appeared first to Cephas (Peter) and then to the Twelve.
Neville's Inner Vision
View the line as a movement of inner sight, not a distant history. Cephas stands as the first face your inner I AM greets; he represents the personal, wakeful self who takes the first look at reality and declares, 'This I am.' After Cephas, the Twelve enter—the Twelve are the many faculties of your own consciousness, the Christ within you that gathers as a chorus when you hold a single vision. The appearances, therefore, are inner revelations: a sequence by which your awareness expands from a solitary sense of self to a united field of being. Resurrection here is not a distant event but an inner waking—an unfolding of God’s presence as you allow your attention to rest on the I AM and then on the entire twelve faculties recognizing that you are whole. Rest in the conviction that you are already seen by the first self (Cephas) and subsequently by the collective inner self (the Twelve). In that moment, the sense of separation dissolves and you live the present reality of the Presence.
Practice This Now
Close your eyes, and inside say, 'I am seen by Cephas, then by the Twelve.' Feel a gentle widening of awareness as you imagine the first recognition settling in your chest, followed by a chorus of your faculties affirming your unity.
