Read 1 Corinthians 13 in context

Scripture Focus

4Charity suffereth long, and is kind; charity envieth not; charity vaunteth not itself, is not puffed up,
5Doth not behave itself unseemly, seeketh not her own, is not easily provoked, thinketh no evil;
6Rejoiceth not in iniquity, but rejoiceth in the truth;
7Beareth all things, believeth all things, hopeth all things, endureth all things.
1 Corinthians 13:4-7

Biblical Context

Charity (love) is patient and kind; it does not envy or boast, is not puffed up or easily provoked, thinks no evil; rejoices in truth; bears, believes, hopes, and endures all things.

Neville's Inner Vision

Charity, in the scripture sense, is not an emotion you acquire by effort, but the state of awareness you consistently inhabit. When you imagine yourself as separate, fearful, or reactive, you are dwelling in a counterfeit sense of self. The true 'I'—the I AM—is charity: patient, kind, unenvying, unboastful, unself-seeking, and calm under provocation. To believe in this verse is to recognize that life moves within your inner consciousness, and every outward friction is but a signal to revise the inner scene. The inner state of grace rejoices in truth rather than in error; charity does not cling to illusions. It bears all things by remaining steadfast in your inner light, believeth all things by affirming the good you desire, hopeth all things by trusting the unseen future as already fulfilled, and endureth all things by remaining unmoved in the awareness that you are love. Practice thus: assume the feeling that you are the embodiment of this charity here and now, and let your imagination renew your state until it becomes your natural habit.

Practice This Now

Imaginative_act: Close your eyes and revise your self-talk to 'I am charity; I am patient and kind; I seek not my own; I think no evil.' Then, for 90 seconds, imagine a moment when someone provokes you and feel your I AM steadying your response with love.
