Charity as Inner State

1 Corinthians 13:3 - A Neville Goddard interpretation

Read 1 Corinthians 13 in context

Scripture Focus

3And though I bestow all my goods to feed the poor, and though I give my body to be burned, and have not charity, it profiteth me nothing.
1 Corinthians 13:3

Biblical Context

Paul declares that even noble acts, like giving all one has or sacrificing one's body, profit nothing without charity. The essence is that inner love is the true motive and currency of all deeds.

Neville's Inner Vision

Notice that the 'charity' Paul speaks of is not a charity to be paid to someone else as if you are separate. In the Neville lens, you are not performing acts upon others; you are awakening to the I AM within, the awareness that creates form. If you bestow goods or offer your body while thinking you are a finite self separate from the receiver, you are maintaining a state of lack and separation; the deed appears external and thus remains inert. But when you recognize that your 'I' is the same essence as the one you would bless, giving becomes an expression of your consciousness. The 'poor' you see are aspects of your own mind awakening to love; the moment you feel charity as your own self, the act moves from external sacrifice to inner creation. Then the act of giving becomes a reverent reminder that you are the source of all mercy. Thus charity is a state of consciousness that animates every gesture; without that inner state, outward generosity is a hollow form.

Practice This Now

Sit quietly and declare, 'I am charity, I am the I Am.' Revise your notion of giving as a state of consciousness; for five minutes feel-it-real that your gift arises from the I AM within.
