Inner Liberty and Glory

1 Corinthians 10:23-31 - A Neville Goddard interpretation

Read 1 Corinthians 10 in context

Scripture Focus

23All things are lawful for me, but all things are not expedient: all things are lawful for me, but all things edify not.
24Let no man seek his own, but every man another's wealth.
25Whatsoever is sold in the shambles, that eat, asking no question for conscience sake:
26For the earth is the Lord's, and the fulness thereof.
27If any of them that believe not bid you to a feast, and ye be disposed to go; whatsoever is set before you, eat, asking no question for conscience sake.
28But if any man say unto you, This is offered in sacrifice unto idols, eat not for his sake that shewed it, and for conscience sake: for the earth is the Lord's, and the fulness thereof:
29Conscience, I say, not thine own, but of the other: for why is my liberty judged of another man's conscience?
30For if I by grace be a partaker, why am I evil spoken of for that for which I give thanks?
31Whether therefore ye eat, or drink, or whatsoever ye do, do all to the glory of God.
1 Corinthians 10:23-31

Biblical Context

Liberty is real but not unconditional; actions must edify and respect others' conscience. In every meal or choice, remember the earth belongs to the Lord and live to the glory of God.

Neville's Inner Vision

Notice that the verse does not command a change in outward rules but calls you to a change in your inner state. All things are lawful only as they are imagined and controlled by the I AM you are. The earth and all its fullness are the Lord's because you are now aware that you are the Lord in whom the world exists. When you stand at a feast, you are not at the mercy of idols or menus but at the mercy of your own consciousness; you can choose to eat or refrain as the feeling of edification and gratitude arises within you. If another's conscience seems to object, you do not bend reality to appease fear; you revise your inner belief to see that your liberty is the manner in which you express love and unity. Your thankfulness for what you partake acts as the governor that keeps appearances in harmony with your inner state. Remember, the ultimate command is to do all to the glory of God, which is simply the recognition that you are the I AM and that imagination creates your world.

Practice This Now

Imaginative Act: In a moment of stillness, assume the I AM presence and revise: I eat to the glory of God, for the earth and its fullness are mine to use in gratitude. Feel it real and carry that conviction into how you respond to invites and meals.
