Biblical Context
Paul recalls our ancestors who were guided by a cloud and crossed the sea. They were baptized unto Moses and fed with spiritual meat and drink; the Rock that followed them was Christ.
Neville's Inner Vision
Notice that in the story, every external event is a symbol of an inner state of consciousness. The cloud represents the protective presence of awareness, the sea represents crossing from fear into faith, and baptism signifies identification with the life that flows through you. When Paul says they drank the same spiritual drink and ate the same spiritual meat, he points to the nourishment available to every state of mind through imagination rightly employed. The Rock that followed them, and that Rock was Christ, is the unshaken foundation of your I AM God-consciousness here and now. Your senses may tell you of lack or distance, but the text invites you to revise: you are already under the cloud of divine presence; you have crossed the sea of limitation; you are drinking from the living Rock that sustains you. The journey from bondage to freedom is the inner shift of consciousness that Neville teaches: assume your desire; feel it real; dwell in the feeling of the fulfilled state until it is your effortless experience. The presence of God is not somewhere else; it is your awareness.
Practice This Now
Close your eyes and assume you are already under the cloud and drinking from the Rock—feel the I AM sustaining you here and now. Repeat this revision until the sense of presence seems natural.
