Conquering Zion Within

1 Chronicles 11:5-6 - A Neville Goddard interpretation

Read 1 Chronicles 11 in context

Scripture Focus

5And the inhabitants of Jebus said to David, Thou shalt not come hither. Nevertheless David took the castle of Zion, which is the city of David.
6And David said, Whosoever smiteth the Jebusites first shall be chief and captain. So Joab the son of Zeruiah went first up, and was chief.
1 Chronicles 11:5-6

Biblical Context

David takes the fortress of Zion from its inhabitants, symbolizing inner victory. The text then sets up the rule that the first to strike the Jebusites shall lead, an inner call to decisive imaginative action and inner leadership.

Neville's Inner Vision

Within your consciousness stands Zion, the city you inhabit when you are awake to I AM. The Jebusites are your stubborn beliefs saying, 'Thou shalt not come hither.' David is the I AM, the victorious self who chooses the state of leadership in imagination. When you decide to enter Zion, you do not conquer with force but with an unwavering assumption. The first mover—the Joab moment—shows your willingness to go first in inner action. You declare, with felt certainty, that the Jebusites are already defeated, and you rise as captain by feeling the truth of it now. As you hold this vision and press it with feeling, the fortress yields and the city is yours from within. Deliverance and authority follow not from resistance but from aligning with the state you imagine. The law is simple: you are the I AM; your inner city answers to your confident assumption, and the outer world reflects that inner victory.

Practice This Now

Assume the feeling of leadership now: close your eyes, declare 'I am in Zion; the Jebusites are conquered,' and hold that feeling until it becomes your present.
