Biblical Context
Jabeshgilead mourns Saul's fate and buries his bones, while Saul dies for disobedience to the LORD by consulting a familiar spirit rather than seeking divine guidance. As a consequence, the kingdom is turned to David.
Neville's Inner Vision
Saul in this account is a state of consciousness that presides with authority but forgets its true ally, the LORD within. Jabeshgilead’s action to recover Saul’s remains mirrors a loyal portion of mind clinging to a memory of rule, while Saul’s death for transgression—relying on a familiar spirit rather than seeking the LORD—exposes a mind that yields to counterfeit counsel. When the outer kingdom is turned to David, it is a symbolic surrender of outer power to the inner king. In Neville’s terms, the external events are inner movements: disobedience to the inner voice creates decay of that state; when the heart finally refuses to consult the old hauntings and instead asks, ‘What does the LORD within say?’, the upper state awakens. The kingdom shifts not by political chance but by the alignment of consciousness with the I AM, and the throne of your life returns to the higher self. You may be called to fast from fear and to listen for the still, small voice that quietly crowns David in you.
Practice This Now
Imaginative act: Assume the inner LORD as your guide now, and revise any impulse to seek counsel from fear or habit. Feel it real as the mind settles into David, the higher self, reigning through you.
