In this lecture Neville Goddard explores the biblical theme of the ‘unbegotten’—the divine self before creation—and its shaping through human imagination. He begins with a close reading of Genesis and Deuteronomy to illustrate how God’s decision to create man in His own image reflects a compound unity of divine ‘I AMs.’ He then shares a visionary experience of a towering figure under an oak tree, symbolizing Abraham’s faith awaiting the Promise, and interprets the serpent in the tree as Christ, personifying divine wisdom and power. Goddard develops a mystical theology in which God becomes man to transform man into God, emphasizing that the human imagination is the divine garment through which creation unfolds. He exhorts listeners to assume their desires as real, thereby participating in the divine creative process and witnessing the fulfillment of God’s promise. Ultimately, Goddard presents an eschatological vision of the ‘eighth day’ or ogdoad, where the fully realized self transcends temporal limitations and enters immortal oneness with God.
