In this December 4, 1964 lecture, Neville Goddard explores the concept of the “Primal State,” the original wish that set creation into motion and defines our divine inheritance. He draws on scripture—particularly Genesis and the epistles of Paul—to show that humanity was predestined to reflect God’s image, filled with love and guided by grace rather than merit. Using a dream anecdote from one of his students, Goddard demonstrates how imagination and feeling can consciously awaken us within any state, whether a dream or an earthly circumstance. He argues that every condition we experience is simply one of an infinite number of states, and that the operative power moving us through these states is our imagination. By learning to feel the fulfillment of our desire as though it were already real—like sensing a bed and pillow under us—we can shift from one state to another at will. Throughout, he emphasizes practical application: prepare an inner “ditch” for the rain of your desire by fully embodying it in sensation. He closes by reminding listeners that each state, good or bad, is a choice and that true transformation culminates in the birth of Christ consciousness within us.
