The Crossspiritual wedding ringGod becoming manChrist withinlaw vs gracestates of consciousnessimaginative creationbiblical allegory

Neville Goddard reinterprets the cross as a spiritual wedding ring symbolizing the union of God and man, rather than a sign of suffering. He explains that biblical references to male and female represent aspects of the individual soul and that ‘‘bearing children’’ signifies the birth of the Christ within. God, as the husband, becomes man so that man may become God, culminating in a single offspring that calls the soul ‘‘Father.’’ God’s law is portrayed as the use of imagination to enter desired states of consciousness, promising success to those who delight in it. Grace, by contrast, is an unearned gift: the impregnation of the soul by God culminating in resurrection, birth, and transformation. The marks of Jesus—resurrection, birth of the Son, and the splitting of the curtain—are internal stages of spiritual awakening. Practical instruction is given to deliberately assume and dwell in chosen states, deny contrary senses and reason, and await the fullness of time when the divine child emerges.
