On April 14, 1969, Neville Goddard delivered a lecture exploring the metaphysical identity of man as soul and the body as an emanation of imagination. Drawing upon Biblical passages from Genesis, Ephesians, and Nehemiah, he argued that the physical form is merely the five-sense manifestation of the inner divine imagination. God, he maintained, became man that man may become God, and likewise we must assume the feeling of our desired state to externalize it in the world. Through contemplative meditation, one reproduces and weds oneself to one’s emanation until desire and self become one body. He emphasized that imagination acts only by persuasion—not compulsion—and that persistence in assumed states “hardens into fact.” Neville illustrated his principles with real-life examples, urging students to test the law of assumption in the silence. The lecture concluded with a call to live as imitators of God through the transformative power of one’s own Imagination.
