In “Jeremiah’s Discovery,” Neville Goddard explains that Jeremiah’s statement about eating the words of God is a metaphor for internalizing scripture via the human imagination. He asserts that the Word of God and divine imagination are one and the same, and that true spiritual birth is achieved through the spirit alone rather than physical water baptism. Goddard critiques early church alterations to scripture—such as added words to support rituals like holy communion and baptism—as obscuring the original spiritual meaning. He emphasizes that human imagination is the creative force behind all reality, capable of transforming personal experience and the external world. By dwelling upon and assimilating the Word, individuals awaken to their true identity as the Lord God of hosts and experience heaven here and now. He further describes the process of contraction (entering the world as man) and expansion (returning to divine awareness) as essential to spiritual growth. Ultimately, he encourages listeners to reject empty physical rites in favor of living imaginative acts that bring about genuine spiritual liberation.
